چکیده

Drug smuggling is a worldwide problem with many negative e ects on the society. It is important to understand and predict smuggler's behavior in order to best position patrolling assets and disrupt his supply chain. The goal of this thesis is formalize smuggler's behavior and compare it with real-world data. Smuggler's route planner makes the main component of this thesis, it's formalized as bi-objective route optimizer, weighting route length and risk of interception along the route. Agent-based simulation of the problem is formed. Results show that smugglers can be divided into classes according to their willingness to risk.

Seafarer with hyperactivity disorder on amphetamine.

A general practitioner decided that a first-time Scandinavian seafarer with hyperactivity disorder, reasonably well-regulated on dextroamphetamine, was fit for unrestricted work at sea. Carrying amphetamine across US borders is drug smuggling, and when the cruise ship could not supply his medication from local ports, his behaviour became so erratic that he had to be signed off. Doctors providin...

Supporting Maritime Situation Awareness Using Self Organizing Maps and Gaussian Mixture Models

Maritime situation awareness is of importance in a lot of areas – e.g. detection of weapon smuggling in military peacekeeping operations, and harbor traffic control missions for the coast guard. In this paper, we have combined the use of Self Organizing Maps with Gaussian Mixture Models, in order to enable situation awareness by detecting deviations from normal behavior in an unsupervised way. ...

AgentC: Agent-based System for Securing Maritime Transit (Demonstration)

Recent rise in maritime piracy prompts the search for novel techniques for addressing the problem. We therefore developed AgentC, a prototype system that demonstrates how agent-based traffic management techniques can be used to improve the security of transit through piracy-affected areas. Combining agent-based modeling and simulation of maritime traffic and novel route planning and vessel sche...

Linear Modelling of Marine Vessels Fuel Consumption for Ration of Subsidized Fuel

An approach to deal with the phenomenon of maritime fuel smuggling is to control the quantity of fuel that is supplied to vessels. For the same reason, fuel is delivered to marine vessels in Iran in accordance with the ration defined by the National Iranian Oil Products Distribution Company (NIOPDC). The ration is determined by a fuel consumption formula defined by the Food and Agriculture Orga...

Using Multi-agent Simulation to Improve the Security of Maritime Transit

Despite their use for modeling traffic in ports and regional waters, multi-agent simulations have not yet been applied to model maritime traffic on a global scale. We therefore propose a fully agent-based, data-driven model of global maritime traffic, focusing primarily on modeling transit through piracy-affected waters. The model employs finite state machines to represent the behavior of sever...
